This was the big one, the final build of the Energy Saving Trust (EST) portal. This is the job that took up most of my time (if not all of it) towards the end of my time at Reading Room.
The EST portal was rebuilt by Reading Room several months back, but that was only the start of it.
Originally before this EST portal 2005 build the EST consisted of 15+ microsites at several various different urls (i.e. est.org.uk/myhome, practicalhelp.org.uk etc) which wasn't very "portally" which is what EST was really looking for.
So our job was to consolidate all these sites into one large portal.
The new portal is now 100% dynamic, from the top level primary nav all the way down to the content and layout of the right hand columns on all pages (that's if they select to have it on the page of course). Therefore there is now no need for the other EST microsites, as they all have their own sections within the new portal and are 100% manageable by that team at EST.
The foundations for the CMS behind this new portal was already created by me in the previous EST portal build. Obviously many changes had to be made to this CMS to allow each area of the site to have its own login to the same CMS etc, but most of the hard work I had already done. It was just then a matter of building the templates for the new front end areas of the site.
